On the evening of March 24, 2020, Matt O’Brien, USD’s CEO, gathered his team to discuss an idea to deploy his company’s 20+ 3D printers to produce respirator masks to help address the critical shortage facing healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. After USD’s efforts gained widespread media attention, offers of help from the 3D printing community came pouring in, and Matt saw an opportunity to create a maker organization that would be dedicated to coming together to help during times of great need.
